Odiham Jazz Weekend

25th Aug 2007

This popular bank holiday weekend event will again be held in the spectacular setting of the Odiham Chalk Pit, thanks to the kind generosity of Ted and Eileen Pither and family. This year will be extra special, as it’s also the 25th anniversary of the NfA, and definitely one not to be missed!

The 9th Annual Jazz Party & Picnic will take place on Saturday 25TH August. It will feature the best of British Jazz, la Crème de la crème. (If Ronnie Scott's are looking for their A List - we've got 'em!)

This year listen to the country's reigning jazz stars plus two phenomenal female vocalists, two living legends and a rising star. World class Trio Dave Newton (Piano) Andy Cleyndert (Bass) and Allan Ganley (Drums) featuring emerging young saxophonist Richard Shepherd from Hook, with special guest instrumentalists Alan Barnes (Sax), Mark Nightingale (Tromobone),Steve Waterman (Trumpet) & guest star vocalisits Miss Lee Gibson, Miss Jacqui Dankworth and Mr Frank Holder (vocals and percussion). Could you beat this line up?! Frank (who discovered Cleo Laine!) was a tremendous hit last year and we can’t wait to see him again!

Guests may bring their own picnic or take the easy option and pre-order direct from Cresson Creative. Gazebos, chairs and tables are available, bookable in advance. Own gazebos and parasols are not permitted but guests many bring their own tables and chairs or rugs if they prefer. A reasonably priced bar, tea & coffee will be available.

There are some wonderful prizes in the grand raffle Grand Raffle and the NfA will also be auctioning some ‘must have’ formula one items. This wonderful evening will conclude with a spectacular firework display. Ticket Price £20.00 (under 5s free). Terrific value for money!

Sunday 26th August will see the Lunchtime Jazz ’n’ Barbecue with a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere. The Phil Brown Swingtet, formerly The Basin Street Six, who have been with us since the NfA charity shop opening in 1998 are back by popular demand. As it is a special year we are providing extra entertainment in the form of The Peter Clancy Band featuring Peter Clancy (Sousaphone), Barry Dixon (Trumpet), "Boots" Edwin Baker (Trombone) and Johnny McCallum - ex Chris Barber Band – (Banjo).

The barbecue provided by RAF Odiham will be even more fantastic this year as it’s our anniversary AND it’s included in the ticket price!

As with Saturday, gazebos chairs and tables are available, bookable in advance. Own gazebos and parasols are not permitted but guests many bring their own tables and chairs if they prefer. A bar, tea & coffee will be available. The raffle prizes will include a flight in a hot air balloon generously donated by Peregrine Travel and there may be some surprises! Ticket price £17.50 (under 11s free) includes the fabulous two course barbecue lunch provided by the RAF. What a bargain!
Tickets are only available in advance and will sell out quickly so buy yours from July 2nd at Katharine Jane and Richard Ward Opticians, Odiham; The Village Gallery, Hook; Pet Kingdom, Hartley Wintney, The Village Shop, South Warnborough and other outlets around the villages.
For details of a special anniversary package please call Margaret Green on 01256 704448. If you have any difficulty in obtaining tickets they can also be purchased by calling this number.

These events are not formal concerts but excellent occasions to relax with friends, chat, listen to the music and eat your meal at your leisure – all in a stunning setting. Enjoy! We look forward to seeing you there.

Everyone should know about Neurofibromatosis (Nf for short) as it can occur in ANY family. It is a genetic disorder of the nerve tissue which is progressive and unpredictable and no two cases are the same. It has many devastating effects and it can cause premature death. Nf affects 1 in every 2,500 people, making it more common than many well-known conditions. There are over 25,000 people in the UK living with neurofibromatosis. Please support our events so we can help those in Hampshire and the surrounding areas. ALL proceeds go to the charity.
